Efficiency Expert: Data Backup and Disaster Recovery

November 8th, 2011 No comments

Performing regular data backups is a mundane but essential job that is often not appreciated until the inevitable happens – the loss of your business’ critical data. This can be caused by many occurrences – hardware failure, data corruption due to a malware infection or virus, physical damage to your place of business such as fire or storm damage, theft or vandalism, or simply an innocent employee error. The task is becoming ever more difficult due to exponential data growth, which leading IT research and advisory firm Gartner, Inc. estimates to be about 45% annually. It is challenging to find backup and disaster recovery solutions that are both efficient and cost-effective as the amount of your critical data continues to grow.

Data backup and disaster recovery planning are best practices for every business, regardless of size. Small Business Technology Solutions can provide you with a simple, reliable, affordable AUTOMATED backup system that integrates both on-site backup for situations where local data recovery is feasible and cloud-based off-site backup in the event of the complete loss of data. Backups can include email messages, contact lists, files, databases, or even entire volumes. Data is encrypted during transmission to the cloud and is immediately available for remote recovery. Three copies of the data are maintained at separate locations – one locally at your place of business and two others in geographically separate data centers. All backups are managed and monitored by professionals and require little effort or expertise on your part.

Contact Small Business Technology Solutions today for a review of your data backup needs. For just a reasonable monthly fee, you can have this little slice of heaven and rest easier knowing your data can be restored if and when the need arises.

In 2010 we made great strides as a company, we added many new services and improved our network infrastructure all in an effort to provide the best service to our clients.

Our spam filtration service is helping keep the inbox clean of many companies in the area, to date we have blocked 16,467,452 emails. Our systems on average receives just under 30,000 emails a day, with only 500-600 or so being legitimate. $10.99 a month covers your whole company, so if you are not protecting your company with our system we encourage you to with a 60 day risk free trial.

We have been very busy this year helping local companies promote themselves with new websites and social media services. Take a look at some of the great sites launched in 2010 including our own:

We provide complete website design and hosting services on our state of the art network for prices a small business can actually afford.

Have you been to a Janesville Jets game this season? Many of you have noticed the free WiFi access at the rink, one of many large scale wireless projects we have been involved in. We have installed a large wireless network at Road Ranger Stadium in Rockford home of the RiverHawks, providing wireless access throughout the entire stadium for both fans and staff. We also provided temporary free WiFi internet for the Rock Regional Business Expo covering the e ntire 50,000 sq foot facility with internet for vendors and patrons alike. (All in one day, with no harm to the facility) Our Downtown Janesville WiFi Project currently has an average of 10-20 people on it per day. We will be expanding coverage come spring as we now have contracts with both Charter and TDS.

We could go on and on with all the great things that have happened in 2010 but we just want to wish you and your families a very safe and happy holiday season and we look forward to helping your business grow in 2011.

Recent Testimonials

“As with many small businesses today our computer system was crucial to the working of our business, however, like so many other businesses we were constantly trying to find ways to keep our bottom line down and maintenance of our computer systems was low on the priority list.

When we decided to get professional help, someone mentioned Small Business Technology Solutions.  I can’t believe the difference.  Their rates are reasonable, the service is great, I call and they are at the office within a couple of hours.  They are diligent, if there is a problem that takes some time or is not easy to fix they will stay on it until complete.

I can say without a doubt that I would recommend Small Business Technology Solutions to anyone in need of computer solutions.”

“Having reliable access to the internet is a must for anyone who works in the press box at Road Ranger Stadium – me, other broadcasters, our local media and press-box staff. The internet in the press box had long been prone to slowdowns and sometimes a complete collapse. Our broadcast relies heavily on new media, so when I can’t access scores or listener email, my job becomes immeasurably more difficult.

I met Robert and Mike at a Forward Janesville event and was impressed by not merely their knowledge and enthusiasm, but by the fact that they can translate the tech jargon into English for the layman without dumbing it down. They clearly articulated what they proposed, in terms of equipment, operation, bandwidth capability and results.

Small Business Technology Solutions proposed not just a significant upgrade in the quality of our press box wireless access, but full wireless access throughout the stadium – for media, players and fans – something that our ownership had billed as a feature of the new stadium prior to its construction, but something we had yet to deliver on.

Robert and Mike toured the entire stadium to lay out the logistics of the task. Professional athletes are notoriously prone to complain about the slightest thing. Our players, who to a man bring laptops or iPods to the clubhouse, were happy about the ability to check scores, surf the web or download music at their lockers. Our tech-savvy fans had a new element to take advantage of when in the stadium.

From my perspective, our partnership with Mike and Robert has been an unqualified success.”

Why we choose Barracuda – SPAM Filtering

September 16th, 2010 No comments

Here is an interesting article put out by Barracuda, the worldwide leader in Email protection. Our SPAM filtering service employs their technology to protect our customers and their businesses. For more information on our service please visit our website, or call one of our offices.

You may have heard about a rampant email Trojan – dubbed “Here You Have” – that circulated late last week. According to our Barracuda Labs research team, the spam first appeared at 8:44 a.m. PDT on Thursday, Sept. 9 and continued to spike throughout that afternoon. Volume dropped off rapidly once the account hosting the malware was shut down.

The virus spread like wildfire. According to reports, it nearly halted work at offices around the world as these messages flooded the inboxes at major organizations including NASA, Comcast, AIG, Disney and more.  I am very happy to report that our security analysis team worked quickly with engineering to ensure that immediate protections were in place to protect our customer base.  And in fact, we immediately blocked more than 200,000 of these messages outright.  This is a faster response time than the majority of our competitors and is an illustration of Barracuda Networks’ ability to respond to the latest threats quickly, and through the power of Energize Updates, we are able to arm our products with powerful protections to keep the networks of you and your customers safe.

The Barracuda Labs team posted a blog entry (“
Here You Have” spam teaches an old worm a new trick) with additional details on this attack, and it is the current Featured Entry off the Barracuda Labs home page. Please check the BarracudaLabs.com site often, as we will continue to post updates regarding major outbreaks and trends that we are monitoring as part of our ongoing commitment to providing our customers with the best protection possible.

Thank you for your continued support!
