What is Unified Communications?

October 11th, 2011

Cisco UC320WUnified communications (UC) is the integration of real-time communication services such as instant messaging, telephony, video conferencing and data sharing with non-real-time communication services such as voice mail, email and fax.  In its broadest sense, UC can encompass all forms of communication that are exchanged via the medium of the TCP/IP network.  UC allows an individual to send a message on one medium and receive the same communication on another medium. For example, one can receive a voice mail message and choose to access it through e-mail or a cell phone. If the sender is online according to their presence information and currently accepts calls, the response can be sent immediately through instant messaging or video call. Otherwise, it may be sent as a non real-time message that can be accessed through a variety of media.

The main advantage of unified communications is the reduction of communication response time, which often is essential in customer service, decision making and acting upon instructions.  Unified communications integrates all systems employees might already use, and helps those systems work together in real time.  It allows users to seamlessly collaborate with others, even if they are in separate locations.

Small Business Technology Solutions can provide the best unified communications products to fit your business needs.  Contact us today to schedule a review of your communication systems and start on your way to improved customer service and employee collaboration.

Happy Holidays!

December 15th, 2010

In 2010 we made great strides as a company, we added many new services and improved our network infrastructure all in an effort to provide the best service to our clients.

Our spam filtration service is helping keep the inbox clean of many companies in the area, to date we have blocked 16,467,452 emails. Our systems on average receives just under 30,000 emails a day, with only 500-600 or so being legitimate. $10.99 a month covers your whole company, so if you are not protecting your company with our system we encourage you to with a 60 day risk free trial.

We have been very busy this year helping local companies promote themselves with new websites and social media services. Take a look at some of the great sites launched in 2010 including our own:

We provide complete website design and hosting services on our state of the art network for prices a small business can actually afford.

Have you been to a Janesville Jets game this season? Many of you have noticed the free WiFi access at the rink, one of many large scale wireless projects we have been involved in. We have installed a large wireless network at Road Ranger Stadium in Rockford home of the RiverHawks, providing wireless access throughout the entire stadium for both fans and staff. We also provided temporary free WiFi internet for the Rock Regional Business Expo covering the e ntire 50,000 sq foot facility with internet for vendors and patrons alike. (All in one day, with no harm to the facility) Our Downtown Janesville WiFi Project currently has an average of 10-20 people on it per day. We will be expanding coverage come spring as we now have contracts with both Charter and TDS.

We could go on and on with all the great things that have happened in 2010 but we just want to wish you and your families a very safe and happy holiday season and we look forward to helping your business grow in 2011.

Recent Testimonials

“As with many small businesses today our computer system was crucial to the working of our business, however, like so many other businesses we were constantly trying to find ways to keep our bottom line down and maintenance of our computer systems was low on the priority list.

When we decided to get professional help, someone mentioned Small Business Technology Solutions.  I can’t believe the difference.  Their rates are reasonable, the service is great, I call and they are at the office within a couple of hours.  They are diligent, if there is a problem that takes some time or is not easy to fix they will stay on it until complete.

I can say without a doubt that I would recommend Small Business Technology Solutions to anyone in need of computer solutions.”

_________

“Having reliable access to the internet is a must for anyone who works in the press box at Road Ranger Stadium – me, other broadcasters, our local media and press-box staff. The internet in the press box had long been prone to slowdowns and sometimes a complete collapse. Our broadcast relies heavily on new media, so when I can’t access scores or listener email, my job becomes immeasurably more difficult.

I met Robert and Mike at a Forward Janesville event and was impressed by not merely their knowledge and enthusiasm, but by the fact that they can translate the tech jargon into English for the layman without dumbing it down. They clearly articulated what they proposed, in terms of equipment, operation, bandwidth capability and results.

Small Business Technology Solutions proposed not just a significant upgrade in the quality of our press box wireless access, but full wireless access throughout the stadium – for media, players and fans – something that our ownership had billed as a feature of the new stadium prior to its construction, but something we had yet to deliver on.

Robert and Mike toured the entire stadium to lay out the logistics of the task. Professional athletes are notoriously prone to complain about the slightest thing. Our players, who to a man bring laptops or iPods to the clubhouse, were happy about the ability to check scores, surf the web or download music at their lockers. Our tech-savvy fans had a new element to take advantage of when in the stadium.

From my perspective, our partnership with Mike and Robert has been an unqualified success.”
